I love a bride who is not afraid to work with me! Every once in a while I meet a bride who is willing to do something just a little different. I love these sessions, they are always a lot of fun and I usually get some great new material out of it.
I had a "Trash the Dress" session this morning with Kayla, my October Bride and anyway she totally went for it and had a great session.
It was an overcast day which made the lighting conditions perfect! I packed up all my photo gear and headed out to one of my favorite places to photograph, Northern State Mental Hospital abandon farm facility in Sedro Woolley. This place is kind of eerie and has all the right colors and textures to set the mood for an incredible session. It was just a bunch of abandon barn buildings with a great sense of depth and perspective. We started out in this one room with faded pastel peeling paint and a roof full of holes. I put Kayla in the doorway and had her strut her stuff. I used some bounced light for a little bit of fill light to give the foreground just a kick of light. The light and Kayla came alive and great images followed. Next we took her outside where she had more room to dance like nobody is watching. The flowing beauty of vale became more apparent with the natural breeze.
One building that was interesting was the old milking barn. I turned one of some of these images black and white because of the high contrast of the peeling paint and the great textures. Kayla look so angelic although her fiancée told me that her nickname was actually “devil woman” . We wrapped up the session at Big Lake where we literally “Trashed the Dress”! Kayla jumped in with a full wedding dress and proceeded to frolic in the water while onlookers watched curiously from the beach. Her dress flowed eloquently in the muddy waters of Big Lake while I caught every moment.
Enjoy the images! This kind of session is becoming more popular and can be added to any wedding package. I have also heard of “Trash the Prom Dress”! Give me a call to be the first Senior to “Trash the Prom Dress!
